Energy Australia

Energy Australia is now one of the largest Australian energy providers with approximately 2.8 million residential and business customers.

Energy Australia is the combined brand being used from October 2012 to replace the separate TRUenergy and Energy Australia brands.

Energy Australia's retail business was previously owned by the NSW Government until March 2011 when it, including the Energy Australia brand, was acquired by TRUenergy.

The distribution network part of the business was retained by the NSW Government and was rebranded Ausgrid. In addition to EnergyAustralia's retail business, TRUenergy acquired from the NSW Government the Delta Western GenTrader bundle for the Mount Piper (1400MW) and Wallerawang (1000MW) coal-fired power stations, plus three power station development sites for a total sum of $2.035 billion.

Energy Australia is aiming to use its bigger scale and generation assets to deliver better products and pricing to its customers.

Energy Australia is owned by China Light and Power (CLP), which is based in Hong Kong and listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. It has been reported in the press that CLP is exploring a float of Energy Australia on the Australian Stock Exchange.
