Every year Forbes determines who the highest-paid celebrities are by calculating the amount of money earned by the main entertainment industry players over the past 12 months (May 2011 to May 2012).

The top 10 is made up of a gang of movie directors, a couple of music producers and the most famous woman on television.

To determine who the highest-paid celebrities are, Forbes considers upfront pay, profit participation, residuals, endorsements and advertising work. Forbes also talked to managers, agents, lawyers and other in-the-know folks to come up with our estimates. Forbes did not deduct for things like agent fees or the expenses related to being a celebrity.
