1.   Budget, Budget, Budget... it is not possible to become financially secure if you are spending more than you earn.
   
2.   Be honest with your self... there is no point in believing that you are spending within your budget if you are turning a blind eye to that blooming credit card debt.
   
3.   Life, Trauma and Income Protection - if you don't have these insurances go and see an adviser and get yourself covered because in life... bad things may happen.
   
4.   Good debt v Bad debt - understand the difference and stick to good debt.
   
5.   Invest in shares or property with the view to never selling.
   
6.   Invest in what you understand - If you understand it you will keep it even when the markets are down. As such you are less likely to buy high and sell low!
   
7.   Invest today... There is no such thing as the right time to invest.
   
8.   Investing v Speculating - understand the difference and stick to investing. Speculating is investing with the hope of being able to selling it for a higher price later on. Investing is the process of buying an asset with the view of owning it for the rest of your life and enjoying the income from the property year after year.
   
9.   Asset v liabilities - understand the difference and buy assets. Not all assets are assets. Basic rule: if it pays you money then it is an asset (eg. shares and rental property). If you pay then it is a liability (eg the property you live in).
