The latest Employee Earnings and Hours survey from the Australia Bureau of Statistics shows that the highest national salary growth between 2010 and 2012 was enjoyed by technical and trade workers. Electricians and telecommunications trade workers followed closely behind.
Some tradies saw their salaries shoot up by as much as $400 per week over the past two years.
Industry sources suggest that a skills shortage is responsible for an increase in wages across most trade professions.
The news is not so good for those working in the IT and health fields where workers have seen wages go backwards over the past 2 years.
