The standard of properties and distance from the CBD may not be ideal, but the suburbs ranked as the cheapest in the nation must surely contain some bargains.
New research from RP Data has listed Australian suburbs in order of affordability with rankings based on the median house price for each postcode.
The survey highlights Canberra's housing affordability problem with the national capital's cheapest suburb, Charnwood, ranked 1,260 on the cheapest suburb list.
Charnwood has a median house price of $381,579, which is at least $100,000 more expensive than the cheapest suburb in any other state or territory.
