World’s Safest Banks 2011

During the GFC, local politicians reassured Australians that our banks were among the safest in the world. While political spin isn't always true, we have uncovered research that proves Australia's major banks do indeed sit comfortably in a top 20 list of the world's safest banks.

For the past 20 years, Global Finance has compiled a list of the World's Safest Banks. The rankings are created through comparisons of long-term credit ratings (From Moody's, Standard & Poor's, and Fitch) and an analysis of the total assets owned by the world's 500 largest banks.
