Information on Energy Concessions in Your State

The cost and savings figures shown on the search results page do not make adjustments for any State Government energy concessions that might be available to eligible concession card holders.


As an eligible concession card holder you are entitled to the same concessions no matter which company you choose as your energy supplier. Switching from one supplier to another does not affect your entitlement to receive a concession.


Should you decide to switch or connect to a new supplier via our website then you can simply enter your concession card details on the application form on our website. We will forward your concession details to your chosen supplier automatically.

Energy concessions in your state


NSW


Energy rebates are offered to NSW residents who hold a:


• Centrelink Pensioner card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pension for War Widows
• Disability Pension at the "totally and permanently incapacitated" or "extreme disablement adjustment" rates

• Centrelink Healthcare Card


Concessions are also available to customers who require life support equipment in their home. Energy Accounts Payment Assistance is also available to those experiencing temporary financial difficulty. These are one-off relief packages available to eligible individuals who experience hardship or emergency. VIC


Energy rebates are offered to Victorian residents who hold a:


• Centrelink Pensioner card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pension for War Widows

• A Centrelink Healthcare card


Victorian energy concessions include:


• Winter Energy Concession: discounted gas and electricity bills that are issued between May and November
• Medical Cooling Concession: will be implemented who patients who find the heat very difficult to cope with
• Life Support Machines
• Off Peak Concession
• Utility Relief Grant Scheme
• Group Homes Winter Energy

• Electricity Transfer Fee Waiver

QLD


The Electricity and Reticulated Natural Gas Rebate is offered to Queensland residents who hold a:


• Centrelink Pensioner card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pension for War Widows

• Queensland Seniors Card


The Electricity Life Support Concession Scheme is available to residents who hold a:


• Centrelink Pensioner card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession card
• Queensland Seniors Card

• Centrelink Health Care Card


The Community Ambulance Cover levy is charged on most electricity bills. Individuals can be exempted from the levy if they hold a:

• Centrelink Pensioner card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession card
• Queensland Seniors Card

• Repatriation Health Card – For All Conditions (DVA Gold Card)

SA


In South Australia, concessions are overseen by the Department of Families and Communities (DFC). Energy concessions are available for residents holding a:


• Centrelink Pensioner card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession card
• Centrelink Health Care Card
• Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) War Widow, TPI and EDA Gold Card
• New Zealand or British War Widow Pension
• SA State Concessions Card

• Commonwealth Seniors Health Card

WA


WA Energy Concessions are available to residents holding a:


• Centrelink Pensioner card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession card
• Centrelink Health Care Card

• Commonwealth Seniors Health Card

• Western Australian Office of Seniors Interests and Volunteering concession cards

TAS


Electricity concessions and discounts are administered by Aurora Energy on behalf of the Department of Health and Human Services. Concessions are available for residents holding a:


• Centrelink Health card
• Centrelink Pensioner card

• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession card


A heating allowance rebate is available to eligible pensioners and is administered by the Department of Health and Human Services. A life support discount is also available to eligible residents. More information can be obtained from Aurora Energy.


ACT


The ACT Department of Disability, Housing and Community Services administers the ACT Concessions Program. Energy Concessions are available for people holding a:


• Centrelink Pensioner card
• Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession card
• Centrelink Health Care Card

• Department of Veterans’ Affairs War Widow, TPI and EDA Gold Card


Life support concessions are available to customers who use electrically operated life support to treat a life–threatening condition that is prescribed by an ACT medical practitioner. More information can be obtained from ACT Dept of Disability, Housing and Community Services.


NT


Power and Water administers Pensioner and Carer concessions for electricity services on behalf of the Department of Health and Families. Concessions of up to 50% of the cost of electricity bills are available for people holding a Northern Territory Pensioner & Carer Concession Card.
