Virgin Mobile Broadband uses the Optus 3G / HSDPA mobile network which delivers wireless internet access to major metro areas across Australia.
Your download speed is affected by your location and the coverage of the network in that location. There are three connection speeds:
- Fastest: HSDPA Mobile which can operate up to 3.6Mbps (with typical speeds quoted by Optus to be anywhere between 500-1500kbps up to a theoretical maximum of 3 - 3.6 Mpbs based on their testing).
- Slower: 3G which usually operates at a slower speed than HSDPA.
- Slow: GPRS / GSM which operates at 50kbps when you are outside metropolitan areas.
5 email addresses are included with this plan.
No Excess Charges
There are no excess usage charges although your connection speed will be reduced to 64kbps if you exceed your usage allowance. Additional speed restrictions may apply subject to the Acceptable Use policy. All peer to peer traffic is limited to 32kbps.
Technical Support is available nationally over the phone 7 days a week for the cost of a local call.
Both uploads and downloads are counted in your monthly usage allowance.
You can bring your own modem or 3G iPad or choose between a standard USB modem or a WiFi modem which will allow you to share your connection with friends.
